Rice, an extremely selective institution, is consistently ranked among the top colleges and universities in the nation. All 50 states and 32 countries are represented in the diverse undergraduate student body, which numbers just under 3,000 and ensures small class sizes and individualized learning. . The Sociology department at Rice is also distinguished (aside from its fine faculty, of course) by an excellent placement record of students at prestigious Sociology Ph.D. programs, including Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and the University of Chicago. In addition, many of our majors go on to top law, medical, public health, and policy schools.
Rice has an active Recreation Center
and outstanding athletic teams (particularly our baseball team, which took third place in the College World Series in 2007). Every Tuesday afternoon, a farmer’s market
sets up on campus. As of Fall 2008, Rice will also have its own childcare center
for employees, located just off-campus in the Rice Village area. Numerous other employee benefits, including tuition remission for dependents (see the Human Resources website
for more information), make Rice a great place to work.
